If you’re going to put in decking, then you want to ensure it lasts as long as possible, doesn’t damage the surface underneath, and that it’s safe to walk on. All of these are pretty simple things to do but there are various dos and don’ts that people tend to forget or ignore when installing composite decking. We’re going to show you how to install your decking safely and effectively in order to enjoy many years of use with minimal upkeep and maintenance required. Let’s get started!
Do use approved fasteners
Fasten your deck boards by fixing them to joists using approved composite bolts and washers. Once you have secured the base of your new deck, use overlapping komposittrall grå brackets for each row of boards. Ensure that at least two out of every three fasteners are shaded from direct sun. Follow these simple steps to avoid a composite problem.
Do leave gaps between decking boards
Composite boards are available in many lengths and widths, which is perfect if you’re looking to install a garden deck with lots of nooks and crannies. This composite plank solid decking helps the gaps between the boards blend in, and look less like the wide cracks in more conventional decking. Make sure that these spaces are around 25mm so they don’t become trip hazards. Similarly, if you have big planks on your ground floor then make sure you have gaps between them too to make it feel as if there are multiple board sizes rather than an entire plank on one section.
Do use two nails/screws per joist
An extra-long threaded plug at each joist will allow you to sink the screws/nails. Threaded plugs are available at any hardware store, such as Home Depot or Lowe’s. Ideally, you want to purchase a composite trolley price (or make your own). We recommend using two nails per joist – there should be five nails on one side and five on the other side.
Do support decking on all four sides
Composite decking is strong and durable, but it can be hard to maintain. The best way to clean composite deckings is by using a pressure washer or by komposittrall balkong the surface with a deck brush. If you’re looking for an easier method, you can use a deck cleaner like our Citrus Power Plus or a detergent like Ivory Snow.
If you are planning on installing your Alpha composite decking on concrete blocks, remember that the blocks must be set in at least 2 of sand so that they don’t shift when wet. It’s also important to place boards between the joists as well so that the boards are not sitting directly on concrete blocks.
Do not use regular screws
Cleaning composite decking might sound like a daunting task, but we’ve compiled our tips to make it easy. Always clean with a pressure washer or garden hose to remove all dirt, mold, stains, and other debris from the surface before sweeping away anything that’s not properly adhered to. Sweep your deck dry after you pressure wash or water scrub it. Vacuum the deck as needed during regular upkeep to pick up small particles in between cleanings.
